                                                 Biography of Krishna
                                                 By Wayne W Hansen

This is a summary learned from the books, "Krsna, The Supreme Personality of Godhead" [1970], and "Bhagavad-gita As It Is" [1972], by A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

Bhumi, the demigoddess in charge of Earth, went to see Brahma.
Brahma is the first demigod and creator of this material universe who receives the energy of creation from Lord Vishnu.
There is a demigod in charge of each world in this universe.
The demigod in charge of a world can see Brahma when there is a problem.
Bhumi told the powerful nordic looking man, Brahma, that the demons were causing too much trouble on Earth.

Brahma led many demigods and Bhumi to see Lord Vishnu.
The demigods chanted the Purusa-sukta prayer to the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
Brahma sat in meditation and received a message from Lord Vishnu.
Brahma told the demigods what the message was.
The Supreme Being will appear on Earth to defeat the demons, and the demigods should take birth in the Yadu dynasty.
Brahma then left and went to Brahmaloka, the highest world in this material universe.

Much later the demigods prayed, "Mother Devaki, within your womb is the Supreme Creator. Your son Lord Krishna will appear for the protection of the pious Yadu dynasty."
Five thousand years ago Krishna was born in India.
His father and mother, Vasudeva and Devaki, saw their baby with four arms, holding conchshell, club, disc, and lotus flower.
They understood that Lord Krishna had appeared.
Vasudeva prayed to him, "I understand that you are the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the Absolute Truth."
Devaki prayed to him, "You have appeared in my womb. I am surprised that you imitate the activities of ordinary humans just to please your devotees."
Krishna said, "Sinless mother your heart is always pure. In the past you have asked me to be your son. I have appeared in this form to convince you that I am Vishnu."
Then Krishna turned himself into an ordinary looking baby boy.

The demon woman Putana thought, "This child is so powerful he can destroy the universe." She had killed many children. Then baby Krishna killed her.

The demon Trnavarta appeared in the shape of a whirlwind. He picked Krishna up and created a dust storm in Vrndavana. But Krishna killed him.

Later Brahma came to Earth and said to Krishna, "My dear Lord, you are the Supreme Personality of Godhead. I offer my humble obeisances and prayers to please you. I am supposed to be the creator of this universe but I cannot estimate the potency of your body. By understanding the Supreme Person one can overcome the chain of repeated birth and death. This auspicious process of devotional service is so important that even a little attempt can raise one up spiritually. By hearing and chanting your glories one can attain entrance into your Kingdom of God."

Two military chariots with drivers, weapons, and flags arrived for Krishna from outer space.
Krishna said to his brother Balarama, "The members of the Yadu dynasty are in great danger before the soldiers of Jarasandha. Your chariot is also here. I request that you sit down on your chariot and kill all these enemy soldiers. We have descended on Earth to protect the pious devotees."
Krishna went upon his chariot and Daruka was the driver. With a small army they came out of the city of Mathura. Jarasandha met Krishna and Balarama and talked to them.
Krishna said to Jarasandha, "We do not want to hear you anymore because it is useless to hear the words of a person who is about to die."
The soldiers of Jarasandha were quickly killed.

Krishna said to King Yudisthira, "It is the desire of all great sages, your forefathers, the demigods, your relatives and your friends, including myself, that you perform the Rajasuya sacrifice. I think that this will satisfy every living entity. I request that you conquer all the kings of the world and collect the tax."
The kings payed the tax and this meant that Yudisthira was the emperor.

Krishna saw that the city of Dvarka was in danger.
Daruka drove the chariot to where Salva was on the battlefield. Salva fired a weapon like a meteor at Krishna but Krishna fired his arrow and destroyed the weapon. Krishna shot his arrows and injured Salva. Then Krishna killed Salva with his disc weapon.

Krishna was the charioteer for Arjuna and he drove the chariot to the battlefield.
Krishna said to Arjuna:

"Never was there a time when we did not exist, and in the future we will always exist.
As the embodied soul continually passes in this body, from boyhood to youth and to old age, at the time of death the soul passes into another body.
A person who is not disturbed by distress and happiness is eligible for liberation.
That which pervades the entire body is indestructible.
No one is able to destroy the imperishable soul.
For the soul there is never birth nor death.
The soul is unborn, eternal, ever-existing, and undying.
As a person puts on new clothes, giving up old ones, the soul accepts new material bodies, giving up the old and useless ones.
For one who has taken birth, death is certain.
For one whose body is dead, birth is certain.
He who dwells in the body is eternal and can never be slain; therefore you do not need to grieve for any creature.
There is no better engagement for a soldier than fighting on religious principles.
For one who has been honored, dishonor is worse than death.
Either you will be killed on the battlefield and attain the heavenly world, or you will conquer and enjoy the earthly kingdom.
Fight with determination.
I instructed this science of yoga to the sun-god Vivasvan.
This supreme science was received through the chain of disciplic succession and the saintly kings understood it in that way.
Now I am telling you the ancient science of the relationship with the Supreme.
I appear in every millennium in my original transcendental form.
Whenever and wherever there is a decline in religious practice I descend myself.
In order to deliver the pious and annihilate the miscreants I advent myself.
One who knows the transcendental nature of my appearance and activities does not take birth again in this material world, but goes to my eternal spiritual world.
Unless one is engaged in devotional service to the Lord giving up activities cannot make one happy.
I am never manifest to the foolish and unintelligent.
I know everything that has happened in the past, everything that is happening in the present, and I know the future.
Intelligent persons who are trying for liberation from old age and death take refuge in doing devotional service to me.
People should meditate on the Supreme Person, the one who knows everything, and the one who shines like the Sun.
From the highest world in the material universe to the lowest world, all are places of misery where repeated birth and death take place.
There is another universe which is eternal and transcendental to this material universe.
When one goes to the spiritual universe he never comes back to the material universe.
Fools do not believe me when I descend in human form.
Those who are confused are attracted by demonic and atheistic views.
Those who are not confused, the great souls, are fully engaged in devotional service because they know me as the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
I am the father and mother of this universe.
I am the source of all spiritual and material worlds. Everything comes from me.
Only by devotional service can I be understood as I am, standing before you and being seen by you.
One who is free from false ego, equal in both happiness and distress, and who is always engaged in devotional service, is very dear to me."
